Abby's Challah Recipe

If you're a Thrive alumni, you know all about Abby's incredible Challah. Now's your chance to recreate those aromatic Shabbat memories in your own home!


Ingredients:

  • 2 Tbs Yeast

  • 1 Tbs Sugar

  • 4 C Warm Water

  • 2 C sugar

  • 1 1/2 C Canola Oil

  • 4 eggs

  • 1 1/2 Tbs Salt

  • 5 Lbs Flour

Directions:

  1. Combine Yeast, Sugar, and Warm Water in a large bowl. Let rise for 10 minutes until bubbles form.

  2. Add the rest of the ingredients to the bowl and combine.

  3. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and then a dishtowel on top. Let it rise for 1 1/2-2 hrs.

  4. separate the dough into 6 or 7 pieces and braid each one.

  5. Brush with egg wash and add toppings of your choice.

  6. For sweet topping combine, equal amounts of sugar and flour then pour in oil until it crumbles
